Indie music is an umbrella term for a wide variety of styles, genres and subgenres that emerged from the independent music scenes of various cities in the United States and United Kingdom. Indie Music Bands has been around since the early 1980s, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that it became mainstream.
Indie bands are known for their unique sound and style, which often incorporates elements from other genres such as folk or rock. They tend to use less studio production than mainstream artists do their songs are simple and stripped down, with lyrics that focus on real life experiences rather than celebrity gossip or fame itself (unlike many pop songs).
The Smiths were an English rock Indie Music Band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr (who also played piano), bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce. After signing to Rough Trade Records, they released their first single, “Hand in Glove”, in May 1983. The Smiths went on to release a further four studio albums: Meat Is Murder (1985), The Queen Is Dead (1986), Strangeways Here We Come (1987) and Rank (1988).
The group broke up in 1987 due to internal tensions over creative differences between Morrissey and Marr following their initial success with singles like “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” and “This Charming Man”.

Their popularity rose in 1993 with the release of their second album The Bends and then again in 1995 with OK Computer. In 2000 they released Kid A which saw them incorporate experimental electronic music as well as influences from jazz and Krautrock; this would later become known as alternative rock.

They achieved massive success with “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, the first single from their second album Nevermind which gained traction on alternative rock radio stations around the world; its success launched grunge into mainstream popularity at that time. In 1991, they won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for Nevermind at the 32nd Grammy Awards ceremony; it also won Best Rock Performance by Duo/Group with Vocal at 34th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in 1993.

They played their first gig at NY University’s Lerner Hall on November 30th, 1998, at an art show opening for the painter Jean-Michel Basquiat.

They were born out of an earlier group called The Rain when Noel Gallagher joined on lead guitar. Oasis released their first record, Maybe, in 1994 to huge critical acclaim and commercial success; it became the fastest selling debut album ever released in Britain at that point. After two more albums (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and Be Here Now and large-scale international tours they split up acrimoniously but reformed again in 2009 after Liam said he had been talking with Noel about getting back together for some time before Christmas 2008.
Indie music bands are great and have changed the face of music forever. Indie bands are a group of musicians who perform their own songs, instead of covering songs from other artists. The members of an indie band may come from different countries, but they all work together to create original music for their fans to enjoy.
Indie bands have been around for many years now, but they didn’t really become popular until after 2000 when technology allowed people to listen online through websites like YouTube or Spotify rather than buying CDs at stores like Walmart or Target (which only sells mainstream artists). In fact, most people today don’t even know what an “old school” record player looks like because everything we listen too these days comes straight out your phone!
We hope you enjoyed our list of the best indie music bands ever! There are many more that we could have included, but these ten bands have had a huge impact on music.
